New to science writing, Danielle Porterfield is making an impression with her commitment to tackle new things. She puts passion and skill into every aspect of her work. Whether it’s with STEMscopes, or as a high school chemistry teacher, she's on it.
“I have always wanted to get involved in content design and curriculum writing, so this was the perfect opportunity for me to work toward that goal,” says Porterfield. She began working with STEMscopes after the science instructional coach in her district brought it to her attention. Porterfield likes the work because so much “love and dedication” goes into each component for both teachers and students.
Staff, fellow writers, and the process itself have all allowed Porterfield to grow tremendously. The experience has proven to be both memorable and enjoyable, and she can’t wait to see the final product.
Porterfield finds that writing for STEMscopes, “challenges me as an educator to continuously push myself to provide the students with more than just content.” She dives into all her work with passion, skill, and creativity. That includes teaching at Grand Oaks High School in Conroe ISD in Texas. Porterfield currently teaches honors and level high school chemistry. She also serves as the school sponsor for the Science National Honor Society and Science Fair. Although this is her first year at Grand Oaks, she’s been an educator for the past five years.When not hard at work with science, Porterfield is most often found outside. She enjoys walking, hiking, and relaxing in a hammock with her dogs, Jack and Jill, her husband not far away. The newly-married couple also enjoys being with family and friends. They devote large amounts of free time to their many nieces and nephews.
